Pujyaya Raghavendraya Sathya Dharma RathayachaBajatham Kalpa Vrukshaya Namatham KamadehnaveThis stotra/shloka has so much meaning. It might have been said millions and millions of times by the very many million devotees of Rayaru. So, what does this stotra mean? Understanding this stotra/sloka brings tears in my eyes. So without much delay lets understand the meaning.I worship the esteemed Raghavendra who is the protector of Satya and Dharma.

Kannada Suprabhata written by Sri. Hebbar and sung by various artists. Kannada devotional songs on Goddess Devi written by Sri. Hebbar and sung by various artists.
I salute the esteemed Raghavendra who is like a kalpavriksha. I bow to Sree Raghavendra who is also like our Kamadhenu.Kalpavriksha is a divine tree, which is there to fulfill all our wishes.
Kamadhenu, similarly is a wish fulfilling cow. It is also sometimes referred to as mother of all cows.Sree Raghavendra fulfills the desires of all the devotees who sincerely pray to him. Rayaru has no bias towards any caste, color or creed. Exactly like the Kalpavriksha and Kanadhenu.
A cow doesn’t ask who the milk is for? Everyone from a child to a 100 year old consumes milk. The cow just gives milk without even asking if the milk is going to be consumed by a Hindu, or if he is a Madhwa or Iyengar or anyone else. The same way Rayaru fulfills the wishes of his devoteed.Anyone irrespective of their religion, caste, color when pray sincerely will have their wishes fulfilled. We have seen this from the several miracles performed. That’s the reason Rayaru is referred to as Kalpavriksha and Kamadhenu. So, lets all sincerely pray several times a day this two lines for good health, lots of devotion and peace in the entire world.
Pujyaya Raghavendraya Sathya Dharma RathayachaBajatham Kalpa Vrukshaya Namatham Kamadehnave. Thank you for posting this Meera.regarding “Rayaru has no bias towards any caste, color or creed” —i have grown up in the close vicinity to rayaru temple in bangalore; and as you are aware from earlier posts/comments on your other blog, i am a firm believer of sri rayaru.
Any idea why people have made it worse? I remember the days when people would say “doora sari” in the mutt where was around. @Meera & @Ram,I think your emotions are misdirected. Let me explain.I want to take two examples,Ex 1#) let’s say there is a family gathering in your company; the kid of an employee goes to the ceo’s cabin and deletes some files. If the ceo handles it well, his/her image improves tremendously; else the employee is truly to blame, because he/she couldn’t control their kid for even a few minutes@Ram, the archaka is going to do pooja to Rayaru, so he is serious about his maddi.
Is it really so bad? The amount of shradde/achara dictates the amount of sannidhi in the Rayaru Brindavan. Don’t thousands of people get benefitted daily from just visiting the Brindavana. If some kid comes to your workplace and just deletes your whole days of work by banging a few keys, how would you react?.
Please note, he should not have scolded the kid; I agree. But it doesn’t show bias or discrimination as alleged, it’s just pure frustration.Ex 2#) If somebody next to you chantsPujyaya Sathya Rathayacha DharmaKalpa Bajatham Vrukshaya Namastubhyam Raghavendraya Kamadehnavewhat will you do? You will/should try to correct the person. Do you think it is logical if the person blames for being biased when you try to teach him/her the correct shloka?Dasara Padas are sung by Aparokshi Gnyanis. Each word is measured, every emotion weighed, taratamya is followed, every ordering is keenly observed, shastras are referenced, bhakti is poured in full measure and then submitted to Anjaneya and Sri Hari and only then a Dasara Pada comes out.
Each Dasara Pada is no less than a shloka. Infact Sri Vyasarajaru calls Purandara Dasara’s compositions as “Purandara Upanishand”. Dasara Padas are composed after “Aparoksha” hence they are infinetly better any film songs, since it is perfect combination of Gynana, Bhakti and Vayragya. Now there is nothing wrong with film songs about Rayaru, it is their dedication to Rayaru. But in temple premises just like only the best is offered. Presenting Dasara Padas in the Rayaru Mutta is the best practise which is being enforced.I agree that temple authorities should be more understanding and less abusive, it’s also upto the people to be more responsible.I hope I have’nt offended anyone, but my intention is to ignite the flame of gynana and bhakti, toremove the misconceptions. I was particularly surprised by the statement made by Smt.
Meera “There is lot of discrimination in all these Mutt’s. It is a pity” which is why I felt compelled to respond. Please let me know if you have any queries, I’ll be happy to respond to the best of my knowledge.Hope this helps.Jai Bharateesha,Hrishikesh. Hrishikesh,I appreciate your comments. However, I stand by my statement “There is lot of discrimination in all these Mutt’s. It is a pity”.
I have encountered several incidents and just writing about one of them.I myself being a Madhwa brahmin, when I visit India am a true Indian, wearing saree every religious place I visit, lots of bangles, flowers, toe ring. In spite of all this, in one Mutta just because my Mom told them I was in America, the priest started saying so many bad things about Indians residing in America; we had no culture, no tradition, so on and so forth. I was really shocked. He wanted all the money we gave, but the way he started talking was just mean. I know how much I do and do see how traditional ladies are who reside in India. It did hurt my feelings a lot. This is just one incident.I can quote several, and me being a Madhwa brahmin was treated like this.
Imagine, how people from other religious background are being treated.I have seen so much arrogance in these priests, it make me wonder why Rayaru is tolerating these people at all. @Meeraavre ?I don’t want this to be a contest of who had gone through what in muttas. I’ve had my fair share of not so pleasant experiences as well in Mutta. It’s a highly personal experience, but overall I have seen the poojaris and archakas help thousands of people.
There was a time I used to visit Rayar Mutta 3 times a day. I’ve seen the poojari’s/administration be very kind to hundreds of devotees in a day; not just Madhwa Brahmins. If somebody is crying in the Mutta, I’ve seen poojaris noticing it. I’ve seen them advise people how to do seva; help them while doing seva. Some are rough in attitude, no doubt and some Muttas are more money minded than others. I have some idealistic principles which I feel the Rayar Muttas are not doing. But these things apart; I’ve seen people from all caste and creed being helped by Poojaris/Temple Administration; there are times incidents of what appears to be mismanagment; but they are definetly more than fair. This is my personal experience based on years and years and years of visiting Rayar Muttas.
Can they improve, yes definetly; but I strongly protest that they are as bad to deserve the above statement.I hope the spirit of the protest is registered ? and there are no hard feelings.Jai Bharateesha,Hrishikesh. I am a Hindu. I pray to Lord Ganeisha, Lord Sivan, Vishnu, Maha Laksmi, Durga and Muruga everyday with passion. I also visit temples. One day while I was viewing youtube, I came across images and songs of Sri Raghavendra. I was so obsessed with him that I bought a VCD of his movie and saw it a few times. I started to think about him every moment.
One night while I was sleeping, he came out from Lord Ganeisha’s picture and walk towards me. And he said to me, “you think of me on Saturdays. And you fast. I will take care of all your problems.”I regard him as my GURU and my GOD.
I have faith in him.I will want to to go to Mantralayam if he permits me one day.I share you my side of experience. You too will experience his presence when you are ready. Dear all, I pray many gods and daily chant this sloka many times. But still my life has many problems right from childhood. My employment is no remaining permanent although I have good experience and qualification.
Had a major accident in childhood and my health is also very much affected. Still I continue to work and help others. But my employment often goes away and I have to suffer long to regain another one. Request you to help me suggest ways. I am chanting Vishnu sahsasranama also daily – Natarajan.
Hi Meera, I have watching your posts and it gives me immense pleasure to say you are doing a great job of enlightening common folks like us. Creating a blog and replying is not a joke. It takes time and effort. Hats off to you for your good efforts. Now coming back to discrimination, i do believe as you do, there is a lot of these things like madi, ammadi hype which sometimes puts off honest sincere people. Rayaru certainly has no discrimination and blesses the person who has bhakthi immaterial of their caste, creed or colour. It is the priests who overdo things.
I do believe hygiene is essential but not at the cost of disgusting behavior. I saw comments by another gentleman saying poojaris help, but this is the job of poojaris to guide and be kind and helpful to devotees. We are concerned about the hypocritical behaviour of some so called priests which puts off people. You are right in stating that while they want $$$ they dont want the $$ donors. When you are far away you feel you miss your culture and so is very sincere in your devotion, prayers, acharas and celebrations. I watch people in india are most western than westerners and westerners have turned towards east adopting yoga, chanting hare krishna, opening temples, doing homa etc.The way it goes one day westerners will start teaching al these to our grand chidren i guess.
Throwing out the madi concept priests have to be more humane kind and considerate to others. My 2 cents.
